Adam Conway | Golf Course Superintendent

We welcome our new superintendent

I grew up in Pagosa Springs Colorado and began working at Pagosa Springs Golf Club at the age of 16 in the golf course maintenance department. I continued on through high school and after graduation began working at The Broadmoor West Golf Course in Colorado Springs while attending UCCS. It was at the Broadmoor that I fell in love with this industry. The experience and the team atmosphere made a lasting impression on me. I moved to North Carolina to begin pursuing my Turf Science Degree at Catawba College and I worked at 2 golf courses in NC during that time; Woodbridge Golf Links and Orchard Hills Golf Club. The second course, Orchard Hills, gave me the unique opportunity to work as the Assistant Superintendent while I was still attending school pursuing my degree. The Superintendent was a highly respected man with a very long career that mentored me and essentially trusted me with the keys to the kingdom. I stayed at Orchard Hills a couple more years after receiving my degree but realized I had to go back to Colorado as it would always be my home. I moved to Montrose and took the job of Assistant Superintendent of The Links at Cobble Creek when it was only a 9-hole course. There I would hone my skills and learn about golf construction techniques, irrigation design, and installation, and growing-in a property as we constructed the back 9. In 2007 I took the job of Golf Course Superintendent at Cedaredge Golf Club. I would stay there 15 years. During that time I also became the Director of Parks and Trail Maintenance, attained my Class A status in the GCSAA, sat on the town safety board and tree board. Last June I had the opportunity to be on staff at the ultra-exclusive Cornerstone Golf Club in Ridgway. I was tasked with assisting in the management of a massive maintenance staff as well as fine-tuning their incredible irrigation system. I had planned on staying there for many years. However, when the opportunity to work at Devil's Thumb presented itself I realized being closer to home was better for my family. So I made the decision to transition back into public golf. This year marks 30 years in the golf maintenance industry for me. I am also currently pursuing the status of "Certified Golf Course Superintendent" which is the highest level in the GCSAA !
